Wear OS Ebook Reader: Read TXT Books Offline
WristTale is available for Wear OS through Google Play. Install it on your compatible watch and paired Android phone, send a TXT book or Markdown notes, and read offline after the watch confirms saving.

What you need
| Requirement | Wear OS / Google Play route |
|---|---|
| Watch | A Wear OS device that Google Play identifies as compatible with WristTale. |
| Phone | The watch's paired Android phone, with the WristTale phone app installed. This transfer route does not use an iPhone. |
| Google services | Working Google Play services on both phone and watch are required for book transfer. |
| Files | Import .txt or .md files on the phone. EPUB, PDF, and Kindle files cannot be imported directly. |
| Offline reading | Available after the watch has confirmed the book was saved. Initial installation and sending are separate from offline reading. |
| Payment | Some sync features require an in-app subscription, managed on the phone. Check the app for current pricing and available entitlements. |
Google Play availability is a device compatibility check, not proof that every model has completed our hands-on tests. See the compatibility table for the distinction between tested devices and devices that still need verification.
Install on your phone and watch
- Open WristTale on Google Play on the Android phone paired with your Wear OS watch and install the phone app.
- Find WristTale in Google Play on the watch, or select the compatible watch in Google Play's device installation options.
- Open WristTale on both devices. Check that the watch is paired with this phone and that Google Play services are available on both devices.
- If the watch is not offered as an installation destination, check the store's compatibility message for that device. A model name alone is not enough to establish support.
This is the store installation route. It does not require enabling Android wireless debugging or using the phone's local APK installation flow.
Send a book and read offline
- Import a TXT book or Markdown file into WristTale on your Android phone.
- Check the text and chapter list, then choose the Wear OS watch as the destination and select the content to send.
- Keep the devices connected while the transfer completes. The phone marks delivery complete only after the watch confirms saving.
- Open the saved book in WristTale on your watch. You can choose chapters, adjust the font size and reading theme, and use automatic page turning. Saved books can be read offline.
For garbled TXT text or chapter problems, use the import guide and local TXT encoding converter before sending the file again.
Galaxy Watch and Pixel Watch support
Galaxy Watch models running Wear OS and the Pixel Watch family are relevant devices to check, but we do not yet list them as having completed model-specific hands-on transfer verification. Confirm that Google Play offers WristTale for your watch, that the phone and watch are paired, and that both have working Google Play services.
Their current status is recorded in the compatibility table. We will update individual model entries when there is evidence from that model, rather than treating a platform release as a test of every watch.
How is this different from other Android watches?
The Android watch reader page covers local installation, including the tested China-market Xiaomi Watch 5. That route uses Android system wireless debugging during installation and has its own phone and watch requirements. The tested Xiaomi installation is not evidence of a Google Play services transfer on Wear OS.
A Huawei watch running native HarmonyOS uses another app and installation channel: see the Huawei watch reader. Apple Watch needs its paired iPhone and the Apple Watch app.
If a sent book does not appear
Check the watch's save confirmation and library first. Then check the phone/watch pairing, Google Play services on both devices, and whether the correct watch was selected. A progress bar on the phone by itself is not confirmation that a book is stored on the watch.
If your watch cannot install the Google Play version, do not assume the local Android route will work instead: compare its installation requirements before choosing that route.
